Isolator Cleaning with Drones

Specialists in the cleaning of high, medium, low voltage and distribution electrical insulators.

The cleaning of insulators is an essential task to ensure the proper functioning and safety of high-voltage electrical networks. Insulators, which are used to separate conductive parts from supporting structures, are exposed to harsh environmental conditions that can cause accumulation of dirt, contamination and deposits that affect their performance.

At Helion, as a spinoff of a company with more than 20 years of experience in the cleaning of live insulators, we have worked in countries all over the world, including Spain, Cyprus, Greece, South Korea, France and Algeria. With an accumulated experience of more than 1,000,000 insulator strings on 66, 132, 220, 400kV and 500kV lines, our team achieves an average of 60 insulators washed per hour. We have developed and perfected an efficient procedure of insulator washing techniques, which we share during the trainings we offer to our customers.

Why choose our drone for insulator cleaning?

State-of-the-art technology: Our drones are equipped with advanced tools and systems for accurate and efficient insulator cleaning. This includes superior capabilities for high voltage and medium voltage insulator cleaning.

Improved Safety: Insulator cleaning traditionally required personnel to work at great heights using difficult and dangerous access equipment. With the use of drones for insulator cleaning, we eliminate that need.

Efficiency and Speed: Our drones are designed to cover large areas quickly and efficiently, guaranteeing excellent cleaning of high and medium voltage insulators.

High Quality Results: The high precision in the application of the solutions ensures that each washed insulator receives the appropriate treatment, maximizing the effectiveness of the operation.

Our Patented HELION X1 Drone

HELION X1

At Helion, we have a patented drone, HELION X1, specially designed to offer maximum precision and efficiency in insulator cleaning. Our drone has been built strictly following the IEC 60855-1:2016 standard, ensuring safety and reliability in every operation.

Benefits of electrical insulator cleaning with drones

Risk Reduction: Unlike helicopters and truck cranes, insulator cleaning drones do not require the presence of operators at height or in close proximity to power lines, minimizing the risk of occupational accidents. The pilot and control equipment remain on the ground at a safe distance, eliminating exposure to direct hazards.

Greater Accuracy and Control: Drones allow for more precise maneuverability, reducing the need to mobilize large equipment or disrupt vehicular and air traffic. This contributes to a more controlled and safer insulator cleaning operation, especially in complex environments or adverse weather conditions.

Lower Environmental and Operational Impact: The use of drones involves less pollution compared to helicopters, reducing the impact on the environment. In addition, their compact size allows for safer operations in confined spaces without the need to block off large work areas.

Main features of our insulator cleaning drone

Discharge Capacity: The pump projects 7 liters per minute, with the possibility of increasing it up to 25 liters per minute when higher intensity cleaning of electrical insulators is required.

Working Pressure: The cleaning system operates with an adjustable working pressure of 130 bar, which can be increased up to 200 bar, ensuring efficient results in the washing of both high and medium voltage insulators.

Cargo Capacity: The drone has a cargo capacity of 40 liters, ideal for continuous electrical insulator cleaning operations without frequent interruptions.

Flight Autonomy: With an autonomy of 12 minutes, the drone can cover extensive high voltage lines during the washing of insulators, always maintaining accuracy and safety.

FPV camera: Equipped with a high resolution 1900×1080 FPV camera, the drone provides high quality real-time images, enabling accurate monitoring of the cleaning and ensuring that each isolator is properly treated.

Live Broadcasting: The ability to broadcast the mission live allows our customers to observe the electrical insulator cleaning process in real time.

Alternative configuration for insulator cleaning

In addition to its standard configuration, our drone offers a second option with no water load. In this configuration, the drone is powered from the ground and achieves a discharge rate of 25 liters per minute at 100 bar. This variant allows operation at a maximum altitude of 100 meters, providing additional flexibility for different applications and environments.

Our HELION X1 drone is a key part of our insulator cleaning offer, combining advanced technology with innovative design to ensure optimal results and safe and efficient maintenance of your electrical infrastructures.

Applications and benefits of electrical insulator washing

Insulator cleaning is essential in high and medium voltage infrastructures, where preventive maintenance ensures optimal performance and reduces power outages. Cleaning electrical insulators with drones not only increases the durability of the insulators, but also minimizes operational risks and costs associated with traditional methods.

Our equipment is prepared for cleaning high voltage insulators in challenging environments, such as rural areas or lines exposed to industrial pollution, as well as for cleaning medium voltage insulators in urban areas.
